Yes, put your beverages down before you start this video of Katie Couric asking, “Where did Obama go wrong to really have this happen to him during the midterm elections?” I am wondering if I start taking whatever Katie happens to be on, will I be able to sleep better at night?
More entertainment from the crew over at MSNBC making fun of Michele Bachmann as a person with a sign asking “How’s the tingle Chris?” goes by in the background.
And now for the topper; a Washington Post op-ed. All emphasis from this point on is to highlight comments.
And now for the next battle
President Obama allowed Republicans to define the terms of the nation’s political argument for the past two years and permitted them to draw battle lines the way they wanted. Neither he nor his party can let that happen again.
Yes, the millions of tea party patriots had absolutely nothing to do with the political argument.
Democrats would be foolish to turn in on themselves in a fruitless battle over whether their troubles owe to a failure to mobilize and excite their base or to win support from the political center. In fact, Democrats held onto moderate voters while losing independents. What hurt them most was this brute fact: Voters younger than 30 made up 18 percent of the electorate in 2008 but only about half that on Tuesday, according to network exit polls. This verdict was rendered by a much older and much more conservative electorate. Yes, there was an enthusiasm gap.
Given this argument, the dems progressives will continue down their progressive yellow brick road while we womp them again in 2 years.
This only underscored that Tuesday’s results mark the beginning of the next round, not the end of the contest. Before the next election – which will be decided by a broader electorate – progressives, including Obama, have to be wiser about the fights they pick, more focused on the country’s economic pain, and as shrewd as their adversaries have been in promoting debates that rally their troops and advance their goals.
I agree that this is by no means the end of the contest; sane, thinking human beings now have to make sure the republicans do the job they were sent to the District of Criminals to do.
Obama was not wrong to fight for health care, to stimulate the economy when it was in deep peril, or to push for financial reform. But by failing to defend these achievements, the president and his allies opened the way for partisan critics, who shifted the conversation to airy language about “big government” and “bailouts.” One result: Only a third of Tuesday’s electorate, exit polls indicated, thought the stimulus had made the economy better.
Only a third think the stimulus made the economy better because they happen to be in the bottom third of the class. The rest of us unemployed and homeless moos know better. THE NUMBERS DON’T LIE!
Now Obama needs to offer proposals that advance the common interest and progressive ideals in ways that force Republicans to pay a price for opposing them. The economy still needs far more support, and Obama should take up the old Republican idea of revenue-sharing by offering states large-scale assistance to prevent layoffs and tax increases. This would be welcomed by the many new Republican governors. Will congressional Republicans really want to pick a fight with them?
Ah, there is the strategy; make the Republicans pay the price by using their own party against them and laying traps. More divisive tactics.
Obama should also push forward with an infrastructure bank, which has bipartisan support. There is no better time to rebuild our nation’s crumbling public facilities than when borrowing is cheap. And he should address the decline of American manufacturing, a prime cause of the discontent that roils the Midwest.
For more information on the infrastructure bank and what a lousy, progressive, globalist idea that is, go here.
In what is rapidly becoming another “Don’t You Dare Tax Me To Save The Bad Guys” moment…
How many of you remember:
8 track tapes, vinyl records, cassette tapes, the telegraph, the Pony Express, black and white television, rotary telephones, punch card computers, reel to reel film, commercial propeller airplanes, turntables, VCRs, and the radio in everyone’s living room?
Did these forms of technology either adapt or go the way of the dinosaurs when advanced technology became available? Then why would we even think of allowing the US Government through the FTC to prop up a withering form of media that has caused it’s own destruction through biased journalism?
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is considering several ways to help the struggling newspaper industry, but Americans strongly reject several proposed taxes to keep privately-owned newspapers going.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 84% oppose a three percent (3%) tax on monthly cell phone bills to help newspapers and traditional journalism.
Similarly, 76% oppose a proposed five percent tax on the purchase of consumer electronic items such as computers, iPads and Kindles to help support newspapers and traditional journalism. Seventy-four percent (74%) oppose the proposal to tax web sites like the Drudge Report to help the newspapers they draw their headlines from.
Each of these ideas was suggested for consideration in a recent FTC report.
Only 10% favor the tax on monthly cell phone bills to help newspapers and traditional journalism. Sixteen percent (16%) support the tax on consumer electronic devices, and 18% of Adults favor placing an additional tax on Internet news sites.
Seventy-one percent (71%) oppose the creation of a taxpayer-funded program that would hire and pay young reporters to work for newspapers around the country. Fourteen percent (14%) support such a program, while 15% are undecided.
The survey of 1,000 Adults was conducted on June 6-7, 2010 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.
One of the FTC’s central concerns is that the quality of local news reporting is suffering as financially struggling newspapers tighten their belts. Yet while Americans continue to see their local newspapers as more reliable than online news sources, they also have consistently questioned government assistance to keep those papers in business.
Fifty-eight percent (58%) of Americans are confident that online and other news sources will make up the difference if many newspapers go out business.
Democrats are more supportive of all three taxes than Republicans and adults not affiliated with either party are. But solid majorities oppose such taxes across all demographic groups.
Thirty percent (30%) of those ages 18 to 29 like the idea of a taxpayer-funded program to hire and pay young reporters. One-in-five Democrats (20%) favor it as well. But again adults in all demographic groups strongly oppose such a program.
In April 2009, 37% favored government subsidies for struggling newspapers, but 43% said it was better to let the papers go out of business.
Last summer, former CBS newsman Dan Rather proposed the creation of a White House commission to help save journalism jobs and find ways for news organizations to survive. Twenty-five percent (25%) like the idea, but 55% oppose it.
It is common knowledge that the MSM that went over to the dark side early in the 20th century are now openly pushing the progressive meme of collectivism through erasure of borders and bias against the American exceptionalism of the greatest generation. Perfect examples of their allegiance to TPTB can be found in the stories covering the immigration marches for and against SB1070 this past Saturday in Phoenix. Fortunately, the alternative media, in this case, American Power was on the scene to photograph the actual occurrences of extremism including socialists, anarchists, and illegals.
First, a few tidbits from the lapdogs of the progressive power-brokers.
At the rally in favor of the law, which began with the pledge of allegiance and the national anthem, any mention of Mexico or supporters of the law brought lusty boos — a video clip of President Felipe Calderón of Mexico especially fired up the crowd, which was mostly white and middle-aged or older. Placards like “Illegals out of the U.S.A.” were typical, though speaker after speaker ridiculed the idea that the crowd was racist. (emphasis mine)
Laura Ingraham filling in for O’Reilly interviews Bernie Goldberg about the flag burning at a protest in Washington, D.C. attending by Ralph Nader.
The media tries desperately to smear the Tea Parties as racist, violent, right-wing domestic radicals but does not cover the left going off on our flag. No surprise there; just thought you might like to see the vid. Has anybody told them that the more they smear us, the stronger we get?
Ah, the verbal bitchslapping begins; I do believe “its on”! If the liberal moonbats were not worried before, they had better be now. The 2nd American Revolution now has it’s speaker and leader!
There is a reason I support Sarah Palin; an intelligent, sincere person who became a politician without becoming corrupt, and resigned when she and her staff were no longer able to get the job done because of ethics complaints bogging them down. Was not her resignation in the best interests of Alaskans?
THIS from Joe Scarborough of Morning Joe on MSNBO?
Are You Freakin’ Kidding ME??????????????????????????
Is the koolaid wearing off Joe? How is that hangover? Are you getting pissed off NOW? Welcome to the club buddy! Where were you and the rest of the main stream media about, oh say, 8 freakin’ months ago when we were screaming at y’all to DO YOUR *&^%* JOBS?
Joe? Are you trying to separate yourself from the rest of squirming “journalists” who dropped the ball and did not investigate ANYTHING ABOUT OUR NEW PRESIDENT ELECT because your “instincts” said it would all be just okey-dokey? Oh for crying out loud; you want to take this tack NOW? Y’all make me more ill than The One and His Wife…
Hey – did you see this earlier video of the general public (mostly I am Joe The Builder Types) taking on the MSM and telling them they were biased? This was our introduction to Tito The Builder and now we have Tito introducing Sarah Palin – I JUST LOVE THIS COUNTRY!!!! Country First!!!! NOBAMA, Not Now, Not Ever!!!
