Democrats Eye 6 p.m. Saturday Health Care Vote
(The Hill:) House could vote Saturday on health bill
The House could hold a rare Saturday vote this weekend to pass its healthcare reform legislation.
An aide to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Wednesday that a vote could happen at 6 p.m. on Saturday, a schedule House Rules Committee Chairwoman Louise Slaughter (D-N.Y.) suggested in reports Wednesday afternoon.
“It could happen at 6 p.m. on Saturday, but no final decisions have been made,” said Nadeam Elshami, a spokesman for Pelosi.
House Rules Chairwoman Louise Slaughter (D-N.Y.) said the goal is to finish Saturday evening. It’s not clear at this point, she said, whether the goal is to finish by 6 p.m. or start voting at 6 p.m.
A Saturday vote would fit within a timeline established after the Manager’s Amendment on the House bill was filed late Tuesday evening. House Democratic leaders had agreed to Republican demands that they post their final bill online for at least 72 hours before a final vote, meaning the earliest that a vote could be held is late Friday.Slaughter and the Rules Committee will meet at 2 p.m. on Friday to determine the rules for the final health debate. The vote would bump up against the Nov. 11 Veterans Day holiday, on and after which lawmakers had been expected to recess until delays in passing the health bill had led Democratic leaders to threaten to cancel the break.

“The American people spoke loud and clear at town hall meetings all across the country throughout August. But, it would appear that Congress didn’t hear a word they had to say. The Democrats’ latest health care proposal unveiled late last week may be packaged a little differently, but it’s the same old bad bill as before.
“This bill is a trillion-dollar, budget-busting, government takeover of our health care system. It will put bureaucrats between people and their health care. It will lead to rationed care, hurting the most vulnerable amongst us first. It will break the bank, leaving our children to pay the bill with diminished freedoms and dwindling prosperity.
“The American people need to stand up again and make sure that Congress hears them this time. Speaker Pelosi is putting her bill on fast track to a vote – and it remains to be seen if the House will even get a chance to vote on the commonsense Republican alternatives. The people need to make a House Call on Washington this week and tell their Representatives to vote no to a government take-over of one-fifth of our economy. This is gangster government at its worst.

Any and everyone that can make it to the US Capitol, Washington, DC to meet Rep Bachmann on the Capitol steps at 12:00 noon is desperately needed.

- The Senate votes on their final version on Monday, 11/16.
- The FINAL version of the House bill comes out Monday, 11/2. The House debates the bill on Wed, Thurs and Fri.
- She asked that we call your rep every day, from Monday straight through to Friday.
- She asked whomever can make it to drive to Wash., DC and meet with her on the west steps of the Capitol to protest on Thursday, 11/5, at 12 Noon. (Remember OUR “house call” visit to the local offices of our rep and senators’ offices downtown at 11:00AM on that same date!)
- The Federal Gov’t, since Obama took office, now controls 30% of the US economy… with Nationalized Health Care at another 18%, they will control a total of 48%!
- $500 billion taken out of Medicare to help pay for this monstrosity.
- $4,000 per year will be added to the average family’s health insurance policy expenses.
- Loss of 5.5 million jobs in the health care industry and related fields in 2010.
- Rep. Bachmann was begging people on the conference call to bury their reps in phone calls, faxes, e-mails and, most importantly, to show up in person.
