3/26/09

(as expected, these amendments are being voted down partisan lines)

5:27pm

HR1388, S277 Serve America Act, National Service Programs bill has passed – 78 ayes, 20 nays.  Now we get to watch them pat themselves on the back.

I have started a new thread – main page – go here.

4pm eastern. The Senate is in a quorum call currently and will be holding the vote on Serve America Act later today.

Hatch (R-UT) is complimenting Mikulski on her “leadership” on this bill, and is  very pleased with this bill.  Making his final pitch to get everybody to vote for this bill.  Hatch has been muted on my tv; can’t take anymore of it.

Mikulski (D-Maryland) is moving toward final passage of this bill S277 after National Security Briefing.

Burr (R-NC) amendment cosponsored by Mikulski proposes required FBI database check for all volunteers. Voice vote – ayes have it – amendment is passed.

Vitter (R-LA) amendment – No money to ACORN or it’s affiliates.  Mikulski  (D-Maryland) brutally opposes this amendment (ranting away).  The vote is to kill this amendment – yays53- nays43.  Amendment has been killed and taxpayer money will be going to ACORN.

Update: voting on Baucus (D)  amendment – passed.  Thune (R-SD) amendment next up (Continue 35% tax deduction rate for charitable contributions) – struck down 49-48.

Update: Kirsten Gillibrand is gushing about this bill, “…harness millions of American minds…”  Go here for interesting info on Mrs. Gillibrand.  Also, Mrs. Gillibrand is an alumni of Davis, Polk & Wardwell who visits the Monster often and who is the firm that Annette Nazareth of “withdrawing from the Deputy Treasury Secretary fiasco” is a partner.  Annette Nazareth had a formidable role at the SEC in changing the rules that created the derivative problem we are now facing.

Update: 3/26/09 – Voting on Amendments to this bill will continue at 2:30pm eastern today.

Update: 6:38am 3/26/09: More debate today – this is tracking with the “vote later this week” comment I saw somewhere in my travels.  I will continue to update this post as the day progresses.

********

(Update: The Senate is still debating this bill.  No vote as of yet.  The votes that they have had today are all on amendments.  As an aside – America is waking up; I had over 800 “searches” yesterday for HR1388 and today the little site is up to over 300 for HR1388 and S277.  America IS waking up and the Congress better start paying attention.)

For those of you (and you know who you are – 46 times on the same page) who are still using IE 6.0….WTF?  Time to change to Firefox.

March 25, 2009 1:21 am Eastern

There are reports floating around the Internet that the GIVE ACT (HR1388)/National Service Reauthorization Act (S3577)/Serve America Act (S277)  has been passed by the Senate in a 74-14 vote according to Kate Phillips of The Obama NY Times.  Sorry for those of you that want us to stop burning up the Senate’s switchboard and are using Obama’s primary voter suppression tactics with the following article.  S277 – Serve America Act HAS NOT BEEN VOTED ON YET. I am not putting up the link for good reason; Google the title of the Obama Times article by Kate Phillips.

Now pay attention people:

The House passed HR1388 last week, S3577 was voted cloture on the 19th, and now has been bundled into S277 and is expected to be voted on “later this week”.   It almost seems like they want to confuse you, huh?

National Service Corps Bill Clears Senate Hurdle

Following overwhelming House passage last week, the Senate tonight voted 74 to 14 on a procedural move that essentially guarantees a major expansion of a national service corps, a cornerstone of volunteerism that dates back to the era of President Kennedy. It’s akin to a call to arms by President Obama, who has harkened back to those early days to demand giving back by those who voted for him.

The NY Times wants you to believe that this is a done deal and everything is over.  Look at the wording, “…the Senate tonight voted 74 to 14 on a procedural move“….  Want to see what they actually voted on?  The cloture motion to stop debate and filibustering.

(Update #3: 3-24-09: It appears that this bill is being bundled with S277 Serve America Act which is going to be voted on today.  They are going through an awful lot of trouble to hide this bill and you would not believe who has been showing up to see how much we know about what is happening with it — hint, hint, the US Senate, besides others.  All of my loyal readers can send a wave out to Jones, Day, Reavis & Pogue.  Welcome, and I will add you to the list.)

(Update: 3-24-09: There is no mention of the vote on this bill. I have been looking since yesterday afternoon. As soon as I find information pertaining to it’s passage or defeat, I will post it here.)

obamayouthThis morning I received an email from a Facebook group that I became part of yesterday, Stop HR1388!! informing me that the Senate has a different name for HR1388 and is flying it under the radar to be voted on today.  What is interesting is that Tyrant Harry Reid, (and I am going to start calling all of them tyrants* because they are acting like tyrants), has asked and been granted cloture.  For those of you that are wondering EXACTLY what that means, here’s the definition from the Legal Dictionary:

Cloture is a means of terminating a filibuster, which is a prolonged speech on the floor of the Senate designed to forestall legislative action.

I personally do not think calling our Senators is going to do any good.  They have the bit in their teeth and they are running with it.  This is just more evidence that the Democrats have “run wild” and are trying to slam through as much liberal leftist crap as they can before Bambi’s time runs out. (see Forgery)

For those of you that want to call the Senate and give them a piece of your mind, the switchboard number is 202-224-3121.

Any of my loyal readers want to do some digging and find out who started this group?  City Year.org This would be very inspiring if we had not experienced the Hitler Youth Years.

TSUNAMI MEDIA ALERT: House Passes Brown Shirt and Jackboot Bill

Bambi and Rahmbo are building an army, and this is the beginning; now we have to stop it in the Senate.
From Wake Up America Movement:
The House of Representatives sailed through HR1388 this Wednesday– without conscience or attention to consequence – in keeping with their voting record so far this year. A version of this
measure is now in the hands of the Senate. If passed into law, it will fulfill Obama/Axelrod’s largest linchpin to take over our country and our society- by taking over our youth (and even attempt to lure
in our needy senior citizens by “paying” them to co-operate.

More details on this looming danger-the greatest we have faced since Obama took over are revealed at Wake Up America movement website. COVERING UP THIS GIVE ACT IS THE REASON for all
the intentionally-timed commotion on AIG. What they stand to gain on this National Service Laws rewrite is far greater than anything they lose on temporary criticism for their AIG conduct!

AN URGENT PETITION to the SENATE – for the signature of you and your readership- is ready and waiting for everyone’s signature. W.A.M. will send with all signers on Monday A.M. so do act fast!
(After signing this PETITION, you will gain immediate access to other ACTION TOOLS on this critical issue.)

RIGHT NOW: will you please OFFER PROTECTION to our country’s future generations, your children,  your aged relations (plus all existing American charities and authentic community service groups) by POSTING THIS LETTER TO THE SENATE on YOUR WEBSITE OR FORUM TODAY!  (Also please forward to all email lists – below dotted line on this send.)

This Letter to the Senate will briefly update your readers on what’s really happening in D.C.
and give them an opportunity to make our voices heard immediately. WE MUST STOP THE
GIVE ACT- we can only do so by acting TOGETHER IMMEDIATELY!

PLEASE BE SURE TO INCLUDE THE LINK TO THE NO-G.I.V.E Petition – where more details on this dreadful Nazi law are also located:

Regarding: Taking Away American Rights in the name of G.I.V.E Act
As a voter and political activist, I am appalled at the lack of diligence and conscience with which our Congress has been conducting itself. It is clear to all informed citizens by now that the AIG fiasco lies directly in the lap of Congress itself.

Whatever the Treasury Secretary did or did not know, it is known that the Stimulus Bill which Capitol Hill made law contained a loophole for the controversial AIG bonuses. If you all were taking responsible time to study legislation before you, irresponsible outcomes like this would not be happening!

Other incidents of questionable contents which your bodies have voted through to law this year are too numerous to mention. When the consequences of these new laws also become more apparent to the American public, will you all just continue to play the blame game – without accepting responsibility for your negligence? Like the billions for A.C.O.R.N., L.C.C.R. and the recent CARD CHECK push to make American workers and businesses subject to the demands of an International Union (SEIU). At least one of these organizations is already recognized for criminal conduct. We need you to pay attention!

We the People are disgusted with the misuse of Mainstream Media to divert attention from critical issues as one scandal after another is used to distract the public from the controversial, misguided, massive spending which you, as a body, are voting through. This includes your own recent pay raise while the rest of America is losing financial ground, stock value, jobs and their homes.

The current legislation to rewrite the “National Service Act” into a government-run indoctrination of American youth – and government take-over of the role of charitable institutions and community service organization (including pay-offs to involve hapless senior citizens) is absolutely the very last straw! The lengths to which the Obama regime is going to push its agenda into a permanent alteration of the face and fabric of our nation – all under the guise of “rushed emergency measures” – has become glaringly obvious and revolting to all our country stands for!

If you have the integrity to hold the Senate seat to which We the People have elected you – and you perform with due diligence on this measure – you will certainly stop this G.I.V.E Act take-over from becoming law. This letter from one voter is an urgent plea, representing millions of Americans, who look on in horror as our trusted officials undercut our economy – with ill-timed and ill-advised sweeping, rushed revisions of our nation’s laws which undermine our entire way of life.

I pray you will recall we are meant to be “One Nation Under God” – not one nation under Obama and urgently request that you demonstrate respect for your constituents, our Constitution and the United States by doing the job we have hired you to do. Please apply the full power of your office to withdraw any and all legislation re: U.S. National Service standards and requirements and its further funding and return your attention to the really critical matters at hand – to preserve our security, liberties and prosperity- not to undo them all in this dangerous manner.

Your actions on this matter will be scrutinized and your responsible conduct on costly, damaging National Service revisions will move quickly to public attention with lasting consequence!

From a voter and activist in the state you are sworn to represent,

So there you go….just one more thing to sail by while you weren’t paying attention.
