Anti-Gun Andrew Traver Could Be Recess Appointed To Head ATF

Remember when Obama appointed Donald Berwick to be the head of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) back in July during a legislative branch recess?  Get ready for anti-gun advocate, Andrew Traver, to be appointed head of ATF during the Christmas break.  Will the wonders and joys of the current administration ever cease?   Will the amount of sh** we have to undo ever stop piling up?

Obama Picks a Director for the A.T.F.

Nearly two years into his term, President Obama on Monday finally chose a director for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Mr. Obama will submit the name of Andrew Traver, the special agent in charge of the bureau’s Chicago field division, to the Senate for consideration, the White House said. He may face a confirmation fight; after Congress changed the position to make it one requiring Senate confirmation, President George W. Bush’s nominee was blocked by senators who used it to criticize the enforcement of gun laws against firearms dealers.

Andrew Traver from WhoRunsGov:

Traver is set to replace Kenneth E. Melson as head of the Justice Department‘s bureau of Alcohol, Traffic, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), which supervises illegal weapons traffic and explosives use, as well as acts of arson, bombing and terrorism; violent criminals; and criminal organization. Melson was the ATF’s deputy director.

Traver, who was with the ATF for 23 years before being nominated to head it, currently is the agency’s special agent in charge at its Chicago field office. He has spoken out strongly about gangs and weapon control.

Media observers have said that he could face a tough Senate confirmation battle; if successful, Traver would be the first Senate-confirmed ATF head since the agency’s last presidential appointee for director stepped down in 2006.(1)
