The new immigration bill written by progressives Chuckey Schumer and Lindsey Grahamnesty will be unveiled for the White House next week. So what could be worse than giving 10.8 million illegal aliens amnesty and assuring a democratic Congress and White House again? A NATIONAL ID CARD TO WORK.
Can you say “Papers Please?” Has nobody learned the lessons of the past? And does this mean that if we will be forced to carry a card to work, we can finally see all of Obama’s sealed records?
ID Card for Workers at Center of Immigration Plan
Under a potentially controversial plan still taking shape in the Senate, all legal U.S. workers, including citizens and immigrants, would be issued an ID card with embedded information.
Lawmakers working to craft a new comprehensive immigration bill have settled on a way to prevent employers from hiring illegal immigrants: a national biometric identification card all American workers would eventually be required to obtain. (emphasis mine)
Under the potentially controversial plan still taking shape in the Senate, all legal U.S. workers, including citizens and immigrants, would be issued an ID card with embedded information, such as fingerprints, to tie the card to the worker.
The ID card plan is one of several steps advocates of an immigration overhaul are taking to address concerns that have defeated similar bills in the past.
The uphill effort to pass a bill is being led by Sens. Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) and Lindsey Graham (R., S.C.), who plan to meet with President Barack Obama as soon as this week to update him on their work. An administration official said the White House had no position on the biometric card.
Wow – that’s a chickenshit position coming from the supposed Constitutional professor, doncha think?
“It’s the nub of solving the immigration dilemma politically speaking,” Schumer said in an interview. The card, he said, would directly answer concerns that after legislation is signed, another wave of illegal immigrants would arrive. “If you say they can’t get a job when they come here, you’ll stop it.”
The biggest objections to the biometric cards may come from privacy advocates, who fear they would become de facto national ID cards that enable the government to track citizens.
“It is fundamentally a massive invasion of people’s privacy,” said Chris Calabrese, legislative counsel for the American Civil Liberties Union. “We’re not only talking about fingerprinting every American, treating ordinary Americans like criminals in order to work. We’re also talking about a card that would quickly spread from work to voting to travel to pretty much every aspect of American life that requires identification.”
Mr. Graham says he respects those concerns but disagrees. “We’ve all got Social Security cards,” he said. “They’re just easily tampered with. Make them tamper-proof. That’s all I’m saying.”
U.S. employers now have the option of using an online system called E-Verify to check whether potential employees are in the U.S. legally. Many Republicans have pressed to make the system mandatory. But others, including Mr. Schumer, complain that the existing system is ineffective.
Last year, White House aides said they expected to push immigration legislation in 2010. But with health care and unemployment dominating his attention, the president has given little indication the issue is a priority.
Rather, Mr. Obama has said he wanted to see bipartisan support in Congress first. So far, Mr. Graham is the only Republican to voice interest publicly, and he wants at least one other GOP co-sponsor to launch the effort.
Can we impeach these asshats yet?
Citizens voters have the absolute empowerment to remove from office all corrupt politicians, Governors, Mayors, Judges and others who have been pandering to the millions of illegal families that have settled in America. In the midterm election THE PEOPLE have an ultimate commitment and duty to identify those incumbents who have used their influence in supporting illegal foreign nationals. Incumbents Sen. Harry Reid should be first to thrown out, followed by majority Speaker Nancy Pelosi, then Sen Chuck Schumer who is recognized as another player to undermine the use of E-Verify, as he tries to substitute it with yet another enforcement tool. ITS ANY SLIMY METHOD TO CUT DOWN ON ENFORCEMENT. Sen. Lindsey Graham is in discussions with President Obama to drag the American people through another expensive AMNESTY. 15 million plus Americans are walking the streets looking for work, while the estimate that upwards of 8 million illegal aliens are–NOT–jobless.
THIS IS THE PROGRESSIVE IDEOLOGY OF CORPORATE AND THE OPEN BORDER INSANENESS. MILLIONS OF CITIZENS AND RESIDENTS ARE VISIBLY LIVID AND ARE THREATENING TO IGNORE THE CENSUS COUNT, BECAUSE THE HAVE A NERVE TO ADJUDICATE ILLEGAL ALIENS AS WELL. WE SHOULD ALSO BE AWARE THAT ILLEGAL ALIENS, WILL VOTE IN THE COMING ELECTIONS FOR LEGISLATORS SUCH AS HARRY REID OF NEVADA, WHERE THERE STATE BUDGET IS ALSO COLLAPSING–AS IN MANY OTHER STATES, INCLUDING THE SANCTUARY STATE OF CALIFORNIA.
Illegal immigration is an epidemic that is costing every state-county-city billions in government entitlements. This issue is like an old gramophone records that keeps repeating itself. Both political parties are to blame, because of their loyalty is to their parties and not to the American people. The money taxpayers spend on supporting welfare for the desperate of other countries, would pay for every Americans health care annually. Our government has lied to us continuously, but we can make an example of those who ignore the people’s interests. It’s funny, people who advocate immigration and say immigrants cost much less than they draw in benefits are universally opposed to laws which would only extend benefits to legal citizens.
I’m fine with immigration when we have a relatively low unemployment rate. I’d actually support even now making immigration for highly educated people somewhat easier. I’m not talking H1Bs really, but PHDs. Our doors should be completely open to very smart hard working people. They create more jobs then they take, without a doubt. But unskilled immigrants, now? We have a very high unemployment rate. Yes, I know, the unemployment rate is not higher in counties with immigrants, but that’s a dumb argument because obviously immigrants go where they can get a job. They’re highly mobile. But if the economy is humming along, then sure, a reasonable number (perhaps 200,000) of low skilled migrants should get residency a year. First generation migrants shouldn’t have the right to vote though, this would make it much less of a political issue, because the effect on elections wouldn’t be something the current generation of politicians would fear or welcome. Their ability to draw social benefits should be limited as well.
I also question the opposition to a national ID card. We already have state drivers licenses and social security numbers. This just adds security and ease. I’ll read up on it though.
I’ve often wondered why Graham is such a progressive working side by side with Schumer. We’ve seen McCain do a pull back now that he’s got some serious competition and his re-election isn’t so certain…and yet Graham hangs with this stupidity. Rep. Eric Massa, quit Congress amid allegations he sexually harassed a male staffer, said he was “set up” by Democratic leaders because he opposed President Obama’s health-care bill….. so, could this possibly be Graham’s stumbling block also?ALIPAC, William Gheen requested Senator Lindsey Graham to come out of the closet, so his constituents will be on even footing with corrupt special interests in Washington regarding his secret lifestyle. Stay tuned, we’ll either be hearing a ton more about this or it will go away quietly.
You asked, “haven’t we learned from the past?” My friend, one thing we learn from history is that we don’t learn from history. Christine
