British Tea Party Turns Tea Party Patriots Away

British Tea Party Turns Tea Party Patriots Away

Its a great day to be an American!  A year ago we were ignored and then ridiculed.  Now the American tea party patriots are starting a global revolution.

Yesterday, the very first british tea party held at Brighton by none other than Daniel Hannan was a raging success with participants being turned away after extra room was opened up.

Brighton Tea Party packed out

Thanks to everyone who came to the Brighton Tea Party, and apologies to those who couldn’t get it. We opened and filled an adjoining room, but it was still quite a squash. The hotel manager told me afterwards that there had been more than 300 people present, not counting those who had had to be turned away.

If you can run a tea-party in Brighton Pavilion – the constituency which the Greens are most hopeful of winning – you can run one anywhere. You don’t have to be a small-government Conservative to feel that taxation, spending and borrowing are currently too high.

Let me say it one more time. Gordon Brown has doubled the national debt. Every second, it rises by another 5,000 pounds. Our deficit is 12.6 per cent of GDP compared to Greece’s 12.7. All this despite the additional trillion pounds taken in taxation since 1997.

We can’t afford another month of this, let alone another five years.

Thanks to the Freedom Association for helping to put everything together, and warm thanks to James and Laragh from my office for coming to Brighton to help.

Dan Hannan calls for a return to sanity in the public finances and a revolutionary dispersal of power at the Brighton Tea Party

It was standing room only at the Boston Brighton Tea Party organised by the Freedom Association early this evening at which Dan Hannan was guest speaker. He said that it was time to “bring sanity and order back to the public finances” an that had to be done by reducing expenditure rather than increasing taxes.

He referred to the time when Ronald Reagan was asked how he could justify cutting taxes when the deficit was so large, and he recalled the President’s reply:

“I’m not worried about the deficit – the deficit is big enough to look after itself”.

In other words, if you bring down taxes there will be economic growth, revenues will rise and the deficit will be reduced. Reagan took a massive gamble, he recalled, and it worked, with Margaret Thatcher doing much the same thing in Britain. “We have lost sight of that wisdom,” he lamented.

Mr Hannan noted that in each of his first two terms as an MEP, the EU had a five-year aim. In 1999-2004 it was harmonisation of legal affairs, crime and justice, and immigration policy; in 2004-09 it was passing the European Constitution.

Now, he said, the EU’s five-year agenda is tax harmonisation. He prayed in aid – for once – the words of Keynes: “He who controls the currency controls the country”.

He noted that the cry at the original 1773 Boston Tea Party was “No taxation without representation” and that today in the US tax may be too high, but that it is not levied by people who are immune to public opinion. In Europe now, he said, there is the danger that we are going down the road towards a pan-European tax system, which was taxation without representation.

To those who might criticise him for aping a foreign idea in Brighton today, he said that there is nothing foreign about meeting to say that we as a people should have a say over what revenue is taken from us. Mr Hannan repeated his oft-made call for a complete rethink of the role of the state in Britain today and said that it was vital that minsters push powers downwards and outwards and restoring democracy.

The Boston revolution led to power being dispersed, he concluded, and whilst he intended drinking tea this afternoon rather than dumping kegs of it in the Channel, he hoped that this would be the start of a revolution that will “restore honour and purpose to the act of voting, dignity to our legislature and freedom to our citizens”.

Will Nancy Pelosi Please Report To The Principal’s Office?

Will Nancy Pelosi Please Report To The Principal’s Office?

For the LOVE OF GOD, can someone shut this woman up?  I know she is digging an even deeper hole for herself each and every day, but frakkin’ dobermans on skateboards; Nancy STFU!  I am so tired of listening to you; a trait that you and your cohorts do not share.

I have been saying for months that this bill will never be dead, that Congress is IGNORING US, and that we can only be assured that this form of healthcare rape does not pass if we can hold on long enough to fire the entire Congress in upcoming elections.  Where have I been wrong?

Pelosi: GOP has had its day; confident Dems can pull together on health bill

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Sunday that Republicans have left their mark on the healthcare bill and should accept that the bill will go forward.

“They’ve had plenty of opportunity to make their voices heard,” she said on CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday morning. “Bipartisanship is a two-way street. A bill can be bipartisan without bipartisan votes. Republicans have left their imprint.”

Splitting hairs much?

The public option, for example, has been stripped from the bill because Republicans were so adamantly against it, she said.

“They’ve had a field day going out and misrepresenting what the bill says,” Pelosi said. “But that’s what they do.”

That statement would only apply if millions of Americans hadn’t already read the bill and told those same lawmakers what was in it’s 2700 pages.

On ABC’s “This Week,” just a few days after the bipartisan healthcare summit, Pelosi said, “What’s the point of talking about it any longer?”

BUT IT GETS BETTER!!!  The progressives are salivating and chomping at the bit being this close to passing the biggest expansion of government – evah!  Nancy, Harry, and Bambi are not going to give up; even it means throwing dems right under that very special Obama bus.  Does anyone want to let Nancy know that we plan on firing the majority of them for the BS and attitude they pulled this past year?  Oh that’s right, she isn’t paying attention to us…

Pelosi: Lawmakers Should Sacrifice Jobs for Health Care

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi urged her colleagues to back a major overhaul of U.S. health care even if it threatens their political careers, a call to arms that underscores the issue’s massive role in this election year.

Lawmakers sometimes must enact policies that, even if unpopular at the moment, will help the public, Pelosi said in an interview being broadcast Sunday the ABC News program “This Week.”
“We’re not here just to self-perpetuate our service in Congress,” she said. “We’re here to do the job for the American people.”

It took courage for Congress to pass Social Security and Medicare, which eventually became highly popular, she said, “and many of the same forces that were at work decades ago are at work again against this bill.”

Social Security and Medicare will be the deathknell of this country with their unfunded liabilities.  Nazi Nancy wants to completely tank the country with healthcare.

The White House says Obama, perhaps on Wednesday, will announce a “way forward” on health care. He, Pelosi, and Senate Democratic leaders have left little doubt that they hope to pass a Democratic-crafted bill under “budget reconciliation” rules that would bar Republican filibusters in the Senate. It’s unclear whether Pelosi can muster the needed votes in the House.

White House officials say they will redouble efforts to remind voters that the Senate passed an Obama-backed health care bill in December, with a super majority of 60 votes. The new plan calls for the House to pass that bill and send it to Obama’s desk, and then use Senate budget reconciliation rules to make several changes demanded by House Democrats.

The White House is going to remind us of how much we opposed the ramming of this bill through the Senate on Christmas Eve?  Oh, BRING IT ON!!!

As for the fascist leader of the house, will Nancy report to the principal’s office for a decidedly robust round of discipline considering she still is not listening?

(P.S.  I am well aware of what most of us wish for Nancy, but let’s keep it civil in comments.  I don’t need anymore attention than I already have.)

I had to add this video just in case Nancy does a fly-by:

CNN Poll: Government A Threat To Liberty

It’s official when CNN reports that the majority of Americans believe the government is too big, and now poses a threat to our liberty.  The sleeping giant is awake.

CNN Poll: Majority says government a threat to citizens’ rights

Washington (CNN) – A majority of Americans think the federal government poses a threat to rights of Americans, according to a new national poll.

Fifty-six percent of people questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Friday say they think the federal government’s become so large and powerful that it poses an immediate threat to the rights and freedoms of ordinary citizens. Forty-four percent of those polled disagree.

The survey indicates a partisan divide on the question: only 37 percent of Democrats, 63 percent of Independents and nearly 7 in 10 Republicans say the federal government poses a threat to the rights of Americans.

According to CNN poll numbers released Sunday, Americans overwhelmingly think that the U.S. government is broken – though the public overwhelmingly holds out hope that what’s broken can be fixed.

The CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll was conducted February 12-15, with 1,023 adult Americans questioned by telephone. The survey’s sampling error is plus or minus 3 percentage points for the overall survey.

8.8-Magnitude Quake Hits Central Chile

SANTIAGO, Chile (Reuters) – A massive magnitude-8.8 earthquake struck south-central Chile early on Saturday, killing at least 47 people, knocking down buildings and triggering a tsunami.

President Michelle Bachelet confirmed 47 deaths and said more were possible. Telephone and power lines were down, making damage assessments difficult in the early morning darkness.

“Never in my life have I experienced a quake like this, it’s like the end of the world,” one man told local television from the city of Temuco, where the quake damaged buildings and forced staff to evacuate the regional hospital.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the earthquake struck 56 miles northeast of the city of Concepcion at a depth of 22 miles at 3:34 a.m. (1:34 a.m. ED).

Chilean television and radio stations said several buildings collapsed in the city of Curico and that there was damage to buildings in the historic center of the capital Santiago, about 200 miles north of the epicenter.

The capital’s international airport was forced to close, a highway bridge collapsed and chunks of buildings fell into the street.

In the moments after the quake, people streamed onto the streets of the capital, hugging each other and crying.

There were blackouts in parts of Santiago and communications were still down in the area closest to the epicenter.

Bachelet urged people to stay calm. “With a quake of this size we undoubtedly can’t rule out more deaths and probably injuries,” she said.

An earthquake of magnitude 8 or over can cause “tremendous damage,” the USGS says. The quake that devastated Haiti’s capital Port-au-Prince on January 12 was rated magnitude 7.0.

TSUNAMI

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said the Chile quake generated a tsunami that may have been destructive along the coast near the epicenter “and could also be a threat to more distant coasts.”

It issued a tsunami warning for Chile and Peru, and a tsunami watch for Ecuador, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica and Antarctica. Chile’s navy said officials had lifted the tsunami warning in southern Chile, local radio reported.

Just a few of the USGS reports:

Magnitude 8.8 – OFFSHORE MAULE, CHILE 2010 February 27 06:34:14 UTC

Magnitude 6.2 – OFFSHORE MAULE, CHILE  2010 February 27 06:52:35 UTC

Magnitude 6.9 – OFF THE COAST OF BIO-BIO, CHILE 2010 February 27 08:01:24 UTC

Magnitude 6.0 – OFFSHORE VALPARAISO, CHILE 2010 February 27 07:12:28 UTC

The Pacific Tsunami Center has issued a warning for the Hawaiian Islands. I will keep you posted.

EVALUATION

A TSUNAMI HAS BEEN GENERATED THAT COULD CAUSE DAMAGE ALONG
COASTLINES OF ALL ISLANDS IN THE STATE OF HAWAII. URGENT ACTION
SHOULD BE TAKEN TO PROTECT LIVES AND PROPERTY.

A TSUNAMI IS A SERIES OF LONG OCEAN WAVES. EACH INDIVIDUAL WAVE
CREST CAN LAST 5 TO 15 MINUTES OR MORE AND EXTENSIVELY FLOOD
COASTAL AREAS. THE DANGER CAN CONTINUE FOR MANY HOURS AFTER THE
INITIAL WAVE AS SUBSEQUENT WAVES ARRIVE. TSUNAMI WAVE HEIGHTS
CANNOT BE PREDICTED AND THE FIRST WAVE MAY NOT BE THE LARGEST.
TSUNAMI WAVES EFFICIENTLY WRAP AROUND ISLANDS. ALL SHORES ARE AT
RISK NO MATTER WHICH DIRECTION THEY FACE. THE TROUGH OF A TSUNAMI
WAVE MAY TEMPORARILY EXPOSE THE SEAFLOOR BUT THE AREA WILL
QUICKLY FLOOD AGAIN. EXTREMELY STRONG AND UNUSUAL NEARSHORE
CURRENTS CAN ACCOMPANY A TSUNAMI. DEBRIS PICKED UP AND CARRIED
BY A TSUNAMI AMPLIFIES ITS DESTRUCTIVE POWER. SIMULTANEOUS HIGH
TIDES OR HIGH SURF CAN SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASE THE TSUNAMI HAZARD.

THE ESTIMATED ARRIVAL TIME IN HAWAII OF THE FIRST TSUNAMI WAVE IS

‘Big Brother’ Cybersecurity Law Clears First Hurdle

‘Big Brother’ Cybersecurity Law Clears First Hurdle

March 20th, 2009:

Almost a full year ago, Jay Rockefeller stating that the internet should never have been created.

On 2.4.2010, just days ago, the house companion bill, H.R. 4061: Cybersecurity Enhancement Act of 2009 passed, clearing the first hurdle to allow the White House total control over the internet with Jay Rockefeller’s S773 and S778.  Go here for all the necessary information on the elistists’ bills, and/or hit the related links at the bottom of this post.

InfoWars has an excellent take on the passage of House bill 4061, (emphasis mine):

Following the Halloweenesque scare fest on Capitol Hill earlier this week — where National Intelligence director Dennis Blair and CIA director Leon Panetta warned of impending terrorist doom — the has House has The Cybersecurity Enhancement Act (H.R. 4061).

“The House today overwhelmingly passed a bill aimed at building up the United States’ cybersecurity army and expertise, amid growing alarm over the country’s vulnerability online,” reports the New York Times. “The bill, which passed 422-5, requires the Obama administration to conduct an agency-by-agency assessment of cybersecurity workforce skills and establishes a scholarship program for undergraduate and graduate students who agree to work as cybersecurity specialists for the government after graduation.”

As a side note, where are those scholarships for all the health care professionals that are going to be required to replace the doctors that quit, and take care of those extra 30-35 million people?  That has been my biggest beef since the very beginning of this health care romp.  How does one insure 30 million more people and provide them with the same level of care with only 856,000 doctors?  But I digress…

Now, the next biggest installment in the loss of our liberty after the Patriot Act.  If you want to continue to have a means of communicating other than carrier pigeon, better get on down to your local representatives’ office and let them know what you think.  Forget emailing or calling; it is much harder to ignore you when you are standing in their doorway, (and that is what it is going to take).

Cybersecurity bill to give president new emergency powers

The president would have the power to safeguard essential federal and private Web resources under draft Senate cybersecurity legislation.

According to an aide familiar with the proposal, the bill includes a mandate for federal agencies to prepare emergency response plans in the event of a massive, nationwide cyberattack.

The president would then have the ability to initiate those network contingency plans to ensure key federal or private services did not go offline during a cyberattack of unprecedented scope, the aide said.

Ultimately, the legislation is chiefly the brainchild of Sens. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) and Olympia Snowe (R-Maine), the chairman and ranking member of the Senate Commerce Committee, respectively. Both lawmakers have long clamored for a federal cybersecurity bill, charging that current measures — including the legislation passed by the House last year — are too piecemeal to protect the country’s Web infrastructure.

Their renewed focus arrives on the heels of two, high-profile cyberattacks last month: A strike on Google, believed to have originated in China, and a separate, more disjointed attack that affected thousands of businesses worldwide.

Rockefeller and Snowe’s forthcoming bill would establish a host of heretofore absent cybersecurity prevention and response measures, an aide close to the process said. The bill will “significantly [raise] the profile of cybersecurity within the federal government,” while incentivizing private companies to do the same, according to the aide.

Additionally, it will “promote public awareness” of Internet security issues, while outlining key protections of Americans’ civil liberties on the Web, the aide continued.

Privacy groups are nonetheless likely to take some umbrage at Rockefeller and Snowe’s latest effort, an early draft of which leaked late last year.

When early reports predicted the cybersecurity measure would allow the president to “declare a cybersecurity emergency,” online privacy groups said they felt that would endow the White House with overly ambiguous and far-reaching powers to regulate the Internet.

The bill will still contain most of those powers, and a “vast majority” of its other components “remain unchanged,” an aide with knowledge of the legislation told The Hill. But both the aide and a handful of tech insiders who support the bill have nonetheless tried to dampen skeptics’ concerns, reminding them the president already has vast — albeit lesser-known — powers to regulate the Internet during emergencies.

It is unclear when Rockefeller and Snowe will finish their legislation. And the ongoing debate over healthcare reform, financial regulatory reform, jobs bills and education fixes could postpone action on the floor for many months.

Both lawmakers heavily emphasized the need for such a bill during a Senate Commerce Committee cybersecurity hearing on Wednesday.

“Too much is at stake for us to pretend that today’s outdated cybersecurity policies are up to the task of protecting our nation and economic infrastructure,” Rockefeller said. “We have to do better and that means it will take a level of coordination and sophistication to outmatch our adversaries and minimize this enormous threat.”

So fellow Patriots, how do you feel about losing your money, your land, your food, your guns, your means of communication, and YOUR CONSTITUTION?

AYFKM? Most Ethical Congress Evah?!

AYFKM? Most Ethical Congress Evah?!

Are You Liking The New Direction?

I am no longer shocked by the shinola that comes out of Nancy’s mouth, but this does fall under the Are You Freakin’ Kidding Me? Award category.  I think Nancy and Bambi are neck in neck for the amount of AYFKM? awards.

It may well be possible that she is making this statement right now because much of what has happened over the last year has been behind closed and locked doors.  What does she know that we don’t?  Don’t answer that; I just ate.

Pelosi Says She’s Running ‘Most Ethical’ Congress Ever, But Won’t Ask Rangel to Resign Chairmanship—For Now

(CNSNews.com) – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) insisted on Friday that she is running the most ethical and honest Congress in history. At the same time, however, she indicated she will not ask House Ways and Means Chairman Charles Rangel (D.-N.Y.) to resign his chairmanship—at least for now.

Rangel was admonished this week by the ethics committee for taking corporate-funded trips to the Caribbean.

Pelosi noted that the ethics committee is looking into other issues involving Rangel, and made it clear that she was interested in seeing the outcome of these investigations soon.

The committee, for example, is looking at Rangel’s failure to disclose hundreds of thousands of dollars in assets that should have been listed on his congressional financial disclosure reports.

“Obviously, they have other issues to deal with,” Pelosi said at her Friday press briefing. “But I thank them for taking this action. I hope that they will have other action soon. But they did not take action against him. They just said he did not willfully break the rules. But we’ll just see what happens next, what comes out of the committee next.”

When a reporter prefaced a question about Rangel by noting that Pelosi had promised to run the “most ethical and honest Congress in history” she interrupted him to say: “And we are.”

If you really need to see the tape of Nancy running her mouth about Charlie, hit the link.  Yeah, thought so.

New Reserve Currency?

Shock! Dismay!  Not really.  How long have we been listening to them beat the drum for a new reserve currency to replace the dollar?  That will only happen if the elitists running this country decide it is in their best interest to do so, and I don’t think we are there just yet.

Head of IMF Proposes New Reserve Currency

IMF’s Strauss-Kahn suggests IMF may one day provide global reserve asset

Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the head of the International Monetary Fund, suggested Friday the organization might one day be called on to provide countries with a global reserve currency that would serve as an alternative to the U.S. dollar.

“That day has not yet come, but I think it is intellectually healthy to explore these kinds of ideas now,” he said in a speech on the future mandate of the 186-nation Washington-based lending organization.

Strauss-Kahn said such an asset could be similar to but distinctly different from the IMF’s special drawing rights, or SDRs, the accounting unit that countries use to hold funds within the IMF. It is based on a basket of major currencies.

He said having other alternatives to the dollar “would limit the extent to which the international monetary system as a whole depends on the policies and conditions of a single, albeit dominant, country.”

Strauss-Kahn, a former finance minister of France, said that during the recent global financial crisis, the dollar “played its role as a safe haven” asset, and the current international monetary system demonstrated resilience.

Daniel Hannan To Speak At The Beginning Of The British Tea Party (UPDATED VIDEO)

Daniel Hannan To Speak At The Beginning Of The British Tea Party (UPDATED VIDEO)

Damn, another event for the pResident to apologize to the world for; Americans standing up and leading. British MEP Daniel Hannan is being interviewed today by Neil Cavuto on ‘Your World’ about the beginning of the British Tea Party.  (I am hoping one of the our go-to patriot YTers catch and post the video.  If it happens, I will update this post.)

British Tea Party Movement to launch on Saturday

Daniel Hannan is a writer and journalist, and has been Conservative MEP for South East England since 1999. He speaks French and Spanish and loves Europe, but believes that the EU is making its constituent nations poorer, less democratic and less free. He is the winner of the Bastiat Award for online journalism.

By Daniel Hannan

The inaugural British Tea Party will take place on Saturday in my home town of Brighton, and I’ll be speaking. Do try to come: here are the details.

Labour has raised more than a trillion pounds in additional taxation since 1997. Yet, unbelievably, Gordon Brown has still managed to run up a deficit of 12.6 per cent of GDP (Greece’s is 12.7 per cent). A far lower level of taxation brought Americans out in spontaneous protest last year.

If you happen to be coming to the Conservative Spring Conference, do please pop in: the Tea Party is five minutes’ walk from the conference venue. It is, however, outside the security zone, and anyone is welcome to come. Oh, and this being England, we’ll be serving actual, you know, tea. I hope to see some of this blog’s readers there.
