Martha Coakley In Trouble, Big Pharma To The Rescue

Last night Scott Brown and Martha Coakley had a debate moderated by David Gergen.  The link to the video of the entire debate is here. From the excerpts that I have seen, Scott Brown won this debate including the comment in response to David Gergen, “It’s not the Kennedy Seat.  It’s The People Seat.”  Martha Coakley is now on the attack with help from the DSCC, Bill Clinton, (you know it’s bad when they bring out the big dog), MoveOn, and Big Pharma.  You can thank these special interest group representatives if Coakley wins and the abomination of health care reform gets passed.

But money is coming to the rescue of Democrat Martha Coakley — healthcare industry lobbyist money, specifically.

Of course, this is how politics works. Lobbyists for various corporations and causes get involved wherever they can for candidates of both parties. But when you see all these big pharma (and insurance!) representatives coming with cash for a crucial vote, you know which side they’re on.

On the flipside, Scott Brown’s MoneyBomb pulled in $1,303,302.50; well over the $500K goal, from regular Americans.

    i watched the debate video and afterward thought to myself how amazing it is that people across the nation have such an intense interest in one states senate race. i, for one, am amazed that i actually know the names/beliefs of representatives and senators from numerous states, not just my own. to me, that signals that citizens across the nation are united in their belief our nation is in peril.

    i, personally, know nothing about the financial needs of candidates late in the election race. with the election one week away, what is the need for donations/funds so late in the race? this is not meant to be a cynical question. i just want to understand. i want to be a well informed citizen and would appreciate an answer. thanks.

    • Clem – the last week in the race is when people are actually paying attention because they may actually get off their couches, find out where to vote, and feel the need to be informed about the candidates. This is the time when print and media are so important – and you know it costs a pretty penny. Just look at the cash that Coakley is pouring into attack ads against Brown. If you were in MA and weren’t paying attention, you might actually vote for her after seeing her ads a bazillion times a day.
