John Allison, Chairman BB&T Bank on Stossel; Truth About The T.A.R.P.

I did not want anyone to miss this video from John Stossel’s program about Ayn Rand and Atlas “Shrugged”, so I posting this segment separately.

John’s interview of John Allison, Chairman of the 9th largest bank in America (BB&T Bank) who requires his executives to read “Atlas Shrugged”. BB&T, who even though they had a policy not to make subprime mortgages, and were overcapitalized, were “strongly encouraged” to take T.A.R.P. money and ended up paying approximately $250 million for money they did not originally need to help keep the public in the dark as to which banks were actually sick. What you are about to hear will make you ill.

Glenn Beck, 1.7.2010: The 100 Year Old Progressive Time Bomb

UPDATE: 1.8.2010: Since the Chosen One pre-empted Glenn with his latest campaign speech yesterday, the Judge is sitting in for Glenn and they are re-playing the entire first portion that unseen. I am putting up the first two parts.

Part 1: 1.8.2010 (from 1.7.2010)

Part 2: 1.8.2010 (from 1.7.2010)

Glenn goes into the beginnings of the progressive movement with Teddy Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson.  I read a book many years ago called “Lies My Teacher Told Me” that changed my view of Teddy.  I’m glad Glenn has caught up.

Obama’s Remarks On Terrorist Report

Oh, please; another campaign speech and more stalling after attempting to create another crisis to exploit; namely a ‘systemic failure’.  Here is the summary of the White House Review of the December 25, 2009 Attempted Terrorist Attack.

President Obama: Security failure ‘my responsibility’

President Barack Obama on Thursday accepted responsibility for intelligence shortcomings that led to a failed Christmas Day bombing plot on a Detroit-bound airliner, saying, “Ultimately, the buck stops with me.

“As president, I have a solemn responsibility to protect our nation and our people, and when the system fails, it is my responsibility,” Obama said.

Obama said an intelligence review found that the U.S. government had the information needed to thwart the plot but failed to do so because of a series of compounding shortcomings, including that intelligence analysts didn’t focus heavily enough on information warning that al-Qaeda in Yemen wanted to strike the United States.

“The U.S. government had the information scattered through the system to potentially uncover this plot and disrupt the attack. Rather than a failure to collect and share this intelligence, this was a failure to connect and understand the intelligence we already had,” Obama said at the White House.

Obama Supporter Ed Koch Hammers The pResident

Neil Cavuto interviews Ed Koch on ‘Your World’ about the terrorist attack on Christmas Day.  Mr. Koch has some scathing remarks about Obama not cutting his holiday short, Obama’s failing ‘make the world love us’ policy, and the fact the Michael Leiter, the director of the NCTC should be fired.

Mr. Koch also wants to know why we have not honored the Dutch hero of Flight 253 for saving his fellows passengers, or the police officers who stopped the Ft. Hood shooter.  He also thinks Obama should start speaking the truth about Islamic Jihadists.  Good luck with that, Ed.

As soon as I can locate the commentary that Ed Koch is speaking about, I will post it.

Rep. Schraeder (D-OR) Hears From The People At Townhall

Rep. Schraeder (D-OR) Hears From The People At Townhall

Freshman Congressman Schraeder got an earful yesterday at a townhall meeting on health care.  His constituents do not believe his rhetoric and the tsunami headed for the Democrats in 2010 may just have reached Oregon.  The video has quite a bit of background noise, but please bear with it because you will hear Oregonians vocally disagreeing with the congressman while waving pocket constitutions.

On the flipside, Mr. Schraeder probably doesn’t care whether he is voted out or not, he has his ‘for-life’ benefits now.

Geithner’s Fed Told AIG to Limit Swaps Disclosure (Update2)

Jan. 7 (Bloomberg) — The Federal Reserve Bank of New York, then led by Timothy Geithner, told American International Group Inc. to withhold details from the public about the bailed-out insurer’s payments to banks during the depths of the financial crisis, e-mails between the company and its regulator show.

AIG said in a draft of a regulatory filing that the insurer paid banks, which included Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and Societe Generale SA, 100 cents on the dollar for credit-default swaps they bought from the firm. The New York Fed crossed out the reference, according to the e-mails, and AIG excluded the language when the filing was made public on Dec. 24, 2008. The e-mails were obtained by Representative Darrell Issa, ranking member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

The New York Fed took over negotiations between AIG and the banks in November 2008 as losses on the swaps, which were contracts tied to subprime home loans, threatened to swamp the insurer weeks after its taxpayer-funded rescue. The regulator decided that Goldman Sachs and more than a dozen banks would be fully repaid for $62.1 billion of the swaps, prompting lawmakers to call the AIG rescue a “backdoor bailout” of financial firms.

“It appears that the New York Fed deliberately pressured AIG to restrict and delay the disclosure of important information,” said Issa, a California Republican. Taxpayers “deserve full and complete disclosure under our nation’s securities laws, not the withholding of politically inconvenient information.”

‘Officially Recused’

Geithner was “officially recused from matters dealing with specific companies” at the New York Fed after his nomination for Treasury Secretary on Nov. 24, 2008, and “began to insulate himself weeks earlier in anticipation of his nomination,” said Meg Reilly, a Treasury spokeswoman. Geithner, who was tapped by President Barack Obama, took the Treasury job January, 2009. Mark Herr, a spokesman for New York-based AIG, declined to comment.

Issa requested the e-mails from AIG Chief Executive Officer Robert Benmosche in October after Bloomberg News reported that the New York Fed ordered the crippled insurer not to negotiate for discounts in settling the swaps. The decision to pay the banks in full may have cost AIG, and thus taxpayers, at least $13 billion, based on the discount the insurer was seeking.

The e-mail exchanges between AIG and the New York Fed over the insurer’s disclosure of the transactions show that the regulator pressed the company to keep details out of the public eye. Issa’s comments add to criticism from Republican lawmakers, including Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa and Representative Roy Blunt of Missouri, who wrote letters in the past two months demanding information from Geithner, 48, about the costs of the AIG bailout.

Gallup: Conservatives Finish First

Gallup: Conservatives Finish First

This would mean that disenfranchised democrats and indies are becoming more alarmed with the current administration and congress’ policy decisions, and sliding to the right.

Conservatives Finish 2009 as No. 1 Ideological Group

PRINCETON, NJ — The increased conservatism that Gallup first identified among Americans last June persisted throughout the year, so that the final year-end political ideology figures confirm Gallup’s initial reporting: conservatives (40%) outnumbered both moderates (36%) and liberals (21%) across the nation in 2009.

More broadly, the percentage of Americans calling themselves either conservative or liberal has increased over the last decade, while the percentage of moderates has declined.

Since 1992, there have been only two other years — 2003 and 2004 — in which the average percentage of conservatives nationwide outnumbered moderates, and in both cases, it was by two percentage points (in contrast to the current four points).

“The proportion of independents calling themselves “moderate” held relatively steady in the mid-40s over the last decade, while the proportion of Republican and Democratic moderates dwindled.”

The rather abrupt three-point increase between 2008 and 2009 in the percentage of Americans calling themselves conservative is largely owing to an increase — from 30% to 35% — in the percentage of political independents adopting the label. Over the same period, there was only a slight increase in professed conservatism among Republicans (from 70% to 71%) and no change among Democrats (at 21%).

Today’s AYFKM? Award: Erasing Pearl Harbor

What  is with Florida?  What?  Did something happen to the drinking water that is allowing such rank stupidity to propogate?  You guys have Rush right there, and still the AYFKM? awards abound.  I have spent hours studying the elections you folks have coming up, and have found that my eyes are crossing as I try to ascertain whether or not you actually have any candidates other than Marco Rubio with some integrity left.

It’s making MY head spin, and that’s something to write home about.

How do you folks do it?

From WND:

Pearl Harbor Day erased! Happy Islamic New Year

Explosive outrage as Dec. 7 remembers Muslims instead of Japan attack on U.S.

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – Explosive outrage is being unleashed on a popular supermarket chain after it published a 2010 calendar marking the date of Dec. 7 with the Islamic New Year, while eliminating any mention of Pearl Harbor Day, commemorating the 1941 attack on the U.S. by Japan.

Joyce Kaufman, a talk-show host on WFTL Radio in South Florida, made the “date which will live in infamy” the centerpiece of her broadcast today, expressing outrage at Publix Supermarkets for its calendar omission.

“We have guys that are fighting Islamic fundamentalists right now in Afghanistan and guarding them from ruining what little freedom they have achieved in Iraq,” said Kaufman. “And now I gotta celebrate their new year over here in my country when they’re getting on airplanes and trying to blow up planes out of the sky in Detroit? I gotta have their New Year’s Day on my calendar and not Pearl Harbor Day? We’ve lost our minds!”

Kaufman and many callers to her station called it a “slap in the face” to all those who fought for America’s freedoms over the years.

“I’m done,” she said. “I’m not walking into a Publix until there’s a formal apology. I’m not walking into a Publix until the calendars have all been pulled. I’m not walking into a Publix until they reissue a calendar and re-evaluate what they put on their calendars. It’s a free country, but I don’t have to shop there.”

Some enraged listeners called in to suggest consumers shred the calendars and mail them to the supermarket’s corporate headquarters in Lakeland, Fla.

One man claimed he spoke with two managers at two separate Publix stores, both of whom confirmed the 2009 edition of the calendar also had no mention of Pearl Harbor Day.

Stossel To Cover ‘Atlas Shrugged’, 1.7.2010 (Updated)

Considering the amount of investigation and research that John Stossel does on a regular basis, today’s show on Ayn Rand’s ‘Atlas Shrugged’ should fall in the category of ‘Don’t Miss’.  Mr. Stossel, speaking on Fox and Friends this morning shows some of the correlations between the book and what is transpiring inside America under the current administration.  Stossel’s show is on at 8pm eastern on the Fox Business Network.

Probably not; he was following The One’s lead.  Still think we are secure?

NCTC director Michael Leiter remained on ski slopes after Christmas Day airline bombing attempt

WASHINGTON – The top official in charge of analyzing terror threats did not cut short his ski vacation after the underwear bomber nearly blew up an airliner on Christmas Day, the Daily News has learned.

Michael Leiter, director of the National Counterterrorism Center since 2007, decided not to return to his agency’s “bat cave” nerve center in McLean, Va., until several days after Christmas, two U.S. officials said.

“People have been grumbling that he didn’t let a little terrorism interrupt his vacation,” said one of the sources.

The NCTC, the post-9/11 clearinghouse for intelligence to detect terror plots against the U.S., is under intense scrutiny for failing to “connect the dots” on Nigerian bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab.

Leiter’s spokesman declined to say when the terror-center chief returned to Washington and fully retook the helm of his analysis agency, which is near CIA headquarters just outside the nation’s capital.
