ClimateGate: Phil Jones Steps Down

On 11.25.09, George Monbiot asked Phil Jones to step down because the scandal surrounding ClimateGate, and he is getting his wish.  I wonder if Phil realizes that the temporary thang is probably a lie as he goes under the bus.  No more gravy train for you Phil.

ClimateGate: George Monbiot Calls For Phil Jones To Resign (11.25.09)

The scientist at the heart of the climate change scandal was under growing pressure to quit last night.George Monbiot, a leading environmentalist, said Phil Jones should resign from the Climatic Research Unit over leaked emails that appear to show researchers suppressed scientific data.

More emails came to light yesterday, including one in which an American climatologist admitted it was a travesty that scientists could not explain a lack of global warming in recent years.

Leading environmentalist George Monbiot (left) has said Professor Phil Jones should resign over the e-mail debacle.

Facing Scandal, Head of Climate Research Lab to Temporarily Step Down

The director of the embattled Climatic Research Unit (CRU) in the United Kingdom is stepping down pending an investigation into allegations that he overstated the case for man-made climate change.

In a statement posted to its Web site, the University of East Anglia says Phil Jones will relinquish his position until the completion of an independent review into allegations that he worked to alter the way in which global temperature data was presented.

Professor Jones said, “What is most important is that CRU continues its world leading research with as little interruption and diversion as possible. After a good deal of consideration I have decided that the best way to achieve this is by stepping aside from the Director’s role during the course of the independent review and am grateful to the University for agreeing to this. The Review process will have my full support.”

Details of the independent review will be releasd in the next few days, according to the statement.

Matt Dempsey, spokesman for Sen. Jim Inhofe, R-Okla., thinks more is still to come from the scandal coming to be known as Climategate. “It certainly shows that there’s more to the investigation and there’s more to come, and we’re only at the beginning stages of learning about climate-gate,” he told FoxNews.com.

This particular web is unraveling, but I do not think it is going to stop Obama from doing something very marxist and very un-American when he visits Hopenhagen.

  1. Prior to 2008, I was a supporter of Gore’s efforts to inform the public about the dangers of AGW. Since then, the blinders have come off. Politics and ideology should not have any impact on science but it does. It’s all too easy to massage the data and have it come out any way you want. The public is clueless and will believe anything you want them to believe if most people can be convinced to believe the same thing. We long ago lost investigative news sources. It’s all about manipulating the masses for some agenda so you can get the money and the power to do as you please. In a Republic, the politicians are supposed to do as the people please. What happened?

There’s nothing wrong with trying to have clean skies and having clean, fresh air to breath. I remember the bad old days before catalytic converters when it was no fun driving in rush hour traffic in a car without air conditioning. Energy efficiency is a good thing because it makes good sense and saves money. Cap and trade, though, makes no sense because it can ruin an economy and will do very little to lessen carbon emissions. Besides, the human impact on global temperatures is very small. If there’s a warming trend, it’s natural. Spending trillions of dollars on carbon reduction is foolish, to say the least.

I’m glad this ClimateGate thing is gaining traction. Let’s hope it has an impact on what Congress does.

  2. Ron – good to see you! Yes, I believed the science as presented too, but had to wonder about carbon emission credits that would not lessen pollution, just put a price on it. Unbelievable scams they have running now-a-days.

I hope heads roll and perp-walks become a daily occurence.

  3. Follow the yellow brick road to the great wizard!
God is greater than these so called Scientists and he is
proving it now daily. Thank you God for showing your
    supreme power!
