Generation Zero (The Movie)(UPDATED)

A must see documentary about the causes of the financial meltdown due out in March, 2010.

Generation Zero:

The current economic crisis is not a failure of capitalism, but a failure of culture. Generation Zero explores the cultural roots of the global financial meltdown – beginning with the narcissism of the 1960’s, spreading like a virus through the self-indulgent 90’s, and exploding across the world in the present economic cataclysm.

Generation Zero goes beneath the shallow media headlines and talking head sound bites to get to the source of today’s economic nightmare. With a cutting edge style and haunting imagery, this must see documentary will change everything you thought you knew about Wall Street and Washington.

Featuring experts, authors, and pundits from across the political spectrum, Generation Zero exposes the little told story of how the mindset of the baby boomers sowed the seeds of economic disaster that will be reaped by coming generations.

David Bossie and Stephen Bannon on FoxBusiness Network:

This movie is broadly connected to this book, and one of it’s authors, Neil Howe is part of the cast. Go over to Amazon and check out the contents page.

UPDATE: Hannity Special on 2.24.2010. The entire show can be seen here.

  1. I’ve said for a long time, it’s the Boomers. It’s disgusting. They went from “make love, not war” to “make war, destroy the world”.

    1. I hate this generational blame game with a passion. A generation includes people born over a span of years. Within that span are waves, starting with the first born post WWII. Within a family, the first born is different from the second born and each wave or subset of the generation was born into different circumstances.

The first wave included those born in 1946 and 1947. They became the best educated and wealthiest generation in history. Those born in 1947 were graduated from high school in 1965, the best class in history before or since. After 1965, US test scores declined for various reasons.

The yuppies were a subset of the boomers, born in the early 1950s. You want to point the finger at a real culprit? Try Chuck Schumer, born Nov 23, 1950. What was his crime? Along with Chris Dodd, he was extremely active in trying to kill Glass-Steagall. Dodd isn’t a boomer since he was born in May, 1944.

The boomers aren’t a mono-culture. Trying to tar a whole generation with a broad and biased brush is nuts. Blame the individuals involved, not some inane notion that a whole generation, some 78.2 million people, 34% of the population, born over a span of 18 years between 1946 and 1964, have the same sort of culture.

Not everyone in the boomer generation attended Woodstock. I did and I was one of 500,000 really nice kids who had similar taste in music. We were a group of 10 who drove up from the DC area in 2 cars. We shared a 10-man tent and we spent hours each of the 3 days just looking for food and water. I went skinny dipping that last morning in White Lake just trying to get clean for the long drive home. I grabbed a piece of Ivory soap floating in the water and washed up.

The first wave of boomers worked hard as hell for everything. Our parents weren’t wealthy. They struggled and saved. The second wave would have it easier. Each successive wave had it easier but education was slipping. There’s a vast difference between a boomer born in 1946 vs. one born in 1964.

  2. I think we need to look at who had influence on this generation, the shift in education, religion and feeling of entitlement. It is hardly likely that a whole group of people woke and decided all of this for themselves.

This country has been under assault for over a century, my thought is we were just starting to see it play out in our cultural at that point in time. I was born at the beginning of this generation, into a dysfunctional family and for what ever reason I did not submit to the belief that I could do what ever I wanted to who ever I wanted. I credit my faith but I also have known people who did not share my beliefs that did not fall into that trap as well as others who did share my beliefs that did.

Once again there is a need to blame a person, or a generation or an institution for certain behaviors, It really is as true today as the beginning of time, you are the making the choices for your life if you screw up, fess up and do better next time.

I wonder what generation these film makers are from.

    1. Heh, the filmmakers are boomers.

Yep, I sure was born into a dysfunctional family, too. No way could I do as I pleased.

  3. One more thought on this subject, I am more than a little concerned that this blame is coming at a time when so many would become eligible for social security and medicare. Does this somehow make those less worthy ?

Discussion about the fact that SS and Medicare are a huge drain on the budget are legitimate but those who are coming of age did nothing wrong. We all thought the money was secure, yes this issue needs to be addressed but I am uncomfortable with the feeling that this message will send, such as look they are the ones who caused this mess so they are not entitled to anything, except maybe rationed health care.

  4. I do not think you can blame a whole generation for this financial problem. If you do need to blame someone, blame those greedy people and those in power that want to continue controlling us all. Remember what Paul Warburg said back years ago, “We will have a one world economic and political system whether we like it or not, the question is, will in come by consent or by conquest”. The people behind the curtain, are the people controlling the economics and political agendas. All so, we, the American people have no one to blame but ourselves. We continue to vote these morons into office time after time. We let them make a carrier out of abusing our rights and liberties. Untill we wake up and put term limits on them, demand that they work for us and not themselves and the special interest groups they pander too, then don’t point a finger at them because there are three more fingers pointing back at yourself. Let’s start demanding that senators and members of the house limit themselves to no more then one (6) year term and when they leave office they don’t take all their fringe benefits with them. Let’s demand an end to some of these stupid entitlements that family after family gets because they are to dang lazy to go out and work for a living. People, we can only blame ourselves. It’s time we stand up and start taking action, tomorrow is too late.

  5. Supposing that is truly how it happened; first of all, fact check.

Secondly, bashing will not fix it. We were in denial for a long time.

Third, lets find solutions. I thought Bring the Toys Home Bring the Boys Home is a good start.

All govts need to be run like businesses and none of this would have happened.

  6. where can I purchase this movie and how much does it cost? do you offer senior citizen discounts. thanks judy

  7. Wow. Blame the hippies. Neo-conservative lunkheads have been jealous of the hippies years because they missed out on all the fun. While we were getting it on with sex, drugs and rock & roll, these people were still living with their parents and jerking off in their bedrooms. Pathetic. Only sheep will believe this crap.

    1. You sir are FULL OF IT!! Your behavior of your “Hippie” World was the start of the crap–You wanted what you wanted, when you wanted and kept it up. Plenty of us were decent and smart enogh to leave the drugs alone and we had more respect for ourselves than to get caught up in your Free Sex perversions. Some of you made our whole generation look bad. Now you one-time hippies are the ones in Washington DC and need to be run out of town on a rail.

  8. Look into the building block of our Educational system. Who was behind the institutes that managed our “History”, “Education”, “Women’s Rights”, “Banking System” etc….. There was purpose to these, and it was not meant for good. If you look into the history of these institutions that to this day exist and have offices in D.C. you will find the family “Rockafellas”, “Bilderburgs” and “Rothchilds”. From these institutes they have incrementally shifted the peoples minds and controlled. It is all coming to fruition in these days we live.
